The Getaway
It has cost two years of inspiration, introspection and dedication from Nairobi, Buenos Aires, Stockholm and Paris for Magnum Coltrane Price to finalise, produce and deliver his Getaway. Two years during the ones Mag decided to give away, one more time, all his talent, passion and energy to what he does the best: to be a catalyst for change!
Again, in his Getaway Magnum refuses to escape the reality of life and of his destiny. He will always believe and will remain stuck in his dreams. From travelling all the way to Kibera, Nairobi (Kenya), one of the largest slum in Africa, to support the work of the medical humanitarian organisation, Doctors Without Borders, or on the other side of the Atlantic ocean, in Argentina, and was threaten for his life at gunpoint in Rosario, Magnum Coltrane surely values in this last opus, through his sixteen tracks, the Price of his commitment, passion and devotion leitmotivs of his eclectic career.
Even though, in this album, the Jazz is the teacher and has inspired largely Magnum’s own influences as much as his surroundings by being accompanied by his talented jazz mates such as Magnus Lindgren, Robert Memeht Sinan Ikiz, Jonas Wall and Nils Landgren, Magnum musically resolute to stick to his guns: his traditional and already famous combination of Funk, Soul & R&B.
The song is the preacher without doubts! Mag Getaway’s lyrics are a variation of his own feelings/thoughts introspected during these two years and his engagement/commitment for the universal right to be and to exist. In his texts, Magnum, without loosing faith to democracy, remains loyal and faithful to what he always wanted to be: Rebel with a cause.
Recorded practically all of over the world during two years while touring with others, mixed in Paris, France; the Getaway is the fruit of a successful multicultural combination of African, Latin American and Western influences result of Magnum’s determination to compile meaningfully what inspired him: the music!
